slide12Other than Friday afternoon’s vehicle fire on Hurricane Hill, Amador County Roadways were pretty quiet. Sutter Creek City Police and Fire Crews responded to a vehicle accident on Old Hwy 49 near Dennis Drive.  According to witnesses on scene a green Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling North from Sutter Hill and lost control on a curve veering into the South bound lane colliding with a GMC pickup. The passenger in the GMC and the driver were taken by ambulance to Sutter Amador Hospital for their injuries.

The Sutter Creek accident happened just minutes after another Friday afternoon at 3:15 pm which occurred on Hwy. 88 west of Ellis Road. According to Officer Melissa Scobee’s report Devin Ray Goudie, 51of Turlock was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota westbound on Hwy. 88 at a high rate of speed. The vehicles speed combined with Goudie’s intoxication made for dangerous driving conditions and Goudie failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and allowed the Dodge to travel off the north roadway edge and collide into an embankment. The impact caused the rear of the vehicle to spin in a clockwise direction. Goudie had minor cuts to his hands and arms and was arrested for driving under the influence.

slide15The rest of Friday and Saturday proved quiet until Sunday morning rolled around and an accident occurred on Hwy. 49 south of 16. Andy Madrigal, 43 of Sacramento was taking a drive on his 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle south bound on State Route 49, with his wife Sophia Madrigal, also of Sacramento. The CHP report indicates that as Madrigal negotiated a series of curves, he failed to maintain his motorcycle within the southbound lane. The motorcycle left the roadway at the west road edge of Hwy. 49 and entered an area of gravel and dirt. The vehicle paralleled the roadway for a brief period, according to Investigating Officer Frank Peixoto, before eventually traveling down a dirt embankment. Madrigal’s wife was ejected, but he remained on the vehicle as it traveled down the embankment. Peixoto said that that Madrigals were both wearing DOT approved helmets and as a result suffered only minor injuries.
