Regional Solution To Wastewater Issues: One Step Closer

Wednesday, the AWA held a special meeting to discuss a long term regional wastewater management plan.

slide23Present at the meeting were agencies from all over the county, including representatives from the Board of Supervisors, members of the Amador Regional Sanitation Authority, ARSA, members of Sutter Creek and Ione city council, and a few members of the public.  Also present were representatives from the two engineering companies Eco-logic and (HDR), both of which were hired to develop a regional approach to the wastewater plan.

The intent of the meeting was to get all the agencies working on the same page as well as exploring and developing a long term wastewater management plan. The meeting’s discussions and information produced three ideas for an interim fix, which will eventually serve as a portion long term solution. Eco logic and HDR will work together to analyze the possibility of Sutter Creek upgrading their sewer plant to a tertiary plant that will serve as the region's wastewater facility.  Also, the engineers will consider a possible regional plant in the Martell area as well.  The possibility of constructing two plants, one in Sutter Creek and one on the Hwy 88 corridor was also discussed at yesterdays meeting.

Members of the agencies stated that they want this interim solution to be the first step for the long term solution. slide27AWA board member Heinz Hamaan stated “We have already done a lot of ground work on this and I think we need to incorporate that into our new plan. I don’t want to end up voting on something that will only get us to 2015."

slide28Supervisor Richard Forester said “This meeting was a success, it has shown that we need to work together to come to a long term regional solution. I'm not looking for 5 years down the road, whether I’m still on the board or not, I want this fixed." Eco logic and HDR will be returning Dec.4th to present their analysis on the implementation of a regional plan. The meeting will be held at 1:30 in the Board of Supervisor's chambers.
