Roads Challenge ACUSD/ACOE This School Year

ChallengeAmador County Unified School District and the Amador County Office of Education have had a challenging year so far in the 2006-2007 school year. The challenge has not been in the classroom in this case, but on the roadways. The California Highway Patrol has reported 8 accidents so far this school year involving district buses- fortunately none were considered serious. The latest accident occurred last week at 501 Argonaut Lane in front of the Triglia Education Center located on Argonaut High Schools Campus According to our local unit of CHP Nada Vasel Nuick had stopped her bus, which had students aboard, in the parking lot in front of, or perpendicular, to Patricia Brenan who was also driving a bus.

CHPApparently, Brenan was having trouble of some sorts with the door of the bus and was trying to identify how to rectify the situation. In an effort to aide Brenan, Vasel Nuick turned off the bus, removed the key as required by procedure, and proceeded to contact Brenan. Upon her arrival at Brenan’s location she realized that her bus was moving backwards and subsequently struck the other bus. According to the CHP Vasel Nuick had failed to properly set the parking brake of the bus. Thankfully both bus drivers and students aboard the bus were uninjured in the accident.
