This single source of data means saving time that is currently spent compiling information from multiple sources. The system will provide the addresses of customers directly affected by planned pipeline maintenance so the AWA can contact them beforehand. Handheld GPS devices can collect elevation information which can be downloaded directly to the mapping database, providing a more accurate calculation. Aerial photography will be directly linked to maps providing ‘before and after pictures’ of new and repaired systems. All of this can be done at the click of a mouse. The software was well received by AWA personnel who began using it immediately following training.
