Issues with this calendar include the lack of down time in the summer for maintenance on district facilities. These concerns have been previously expressed by the district’s maintenance personnel, however, according to Director of Personnel Rosalie McProuty, there is very little room for change in the calendar because of the requirements of the district’s contract with the Amador County Teacher’s Association, ATCA. The contract requires that the first semester end by Christmas break and that graduation occur on the week following the Italian Picnic. The Board has traditionally split on the issue with some factions of the board believing that a full traditional calendar with a After Labor Day start would benefit the district. The first day of school next year will be August 13th, this allows an 8 week summer for students. Friday December 21st thru Tuesday Jan 8th will be the Christmas Break. Spring Break will be held Friday March 21st through Friday the 28th. The last day of school will be Friday June 6th. The calendar passed on a 7-0 vote.
