According to the report the driver of the pickup truck tried to take evasive action but was unable to do so. The 17 year old male, was transported to Sutter Amador Hospital with minor injuries. Daniel Hugh Cunningham was critically injured and despite the heroic efforts of on scene emergency personnel he was declared dead by air ambulance personnel at around 9:17 am. It is believed that Cunningham had multiple health related issues and may have experienced some sort of crisis.  A witness driving behind him indicated that the Cavalier was swerving all over the road prior to the crash. The accident is under investigation by the CHP.
